2012 BMW 3-Series to Be Revealed This Friday

BMW will be unveiling the 2012 3-series on October 14, Friday, in Munich. The German automaker has started a timer on its Facebook page for the unveiling of the new model year. The 2012 3-series will sport a new exterior and redesigned interior along with new powertrain trims.

One of the most interesting members of the 3-series lineup will be the hybrid version of the car. This hybrid, dubbed as the BMW ActiveHybrid 3, will feature a 3.0-litre TwinPower turbo petrol engine linked up to an electric motor hybrid drive system. The electric motor will add an additional 53 horsepower to the car. Other details are not available yet.

The 2012 model year 3-series will feature a total of five gasoline engines. The engines are expected to be turbocharged and will range from 2.0 to 3.0 liter in capacity. The gasoline powered models in the 3-series lineup will be the 316i (2.0 liter, 134 horsepower), the 320i (2.0 liter, 181 hp), the 325i (2.0 liter, 218 hp), the 328i (242 hp – 2.0 liter inline four-cylinder TwinPower turbo) and the 335i (302 hp, 3.0 liter, six-cylinder TwinPower turbo).

The diesel powered models included in the 2012 3-series lineup are the 316d (114 hp), the 318d (141 hp) and the 320d (181 hp). The lineup may also see the addition of the 323d and 335d at a later stage.

The new 3-series is expected to feature BMW’s Efficient Dynamics technologies for lower drag co-efficient and better fuel economy. The 3-series will go on sale in the second half of next year. More details will be revealed at the time of launch on Friday.
